The SLVWCD Board of Directors are based on:
Category 1: One Director from each county that have more than 1% of their land within the boundries of the District. Such a Director must own land in the county they represent. Alamosa, Rio Grande and Saguache Counties each have one Director under these criteria.
Category 2: The balance of Directors (7) shall be in the same proporation as the population of the county that lies within the District boundries, bears to the total population within the District's boundaries. Such a Director must own land in the county and have resided there for no less than one year. Under these Criteria, Alamosa and Rio Grande Counties each have three (3) Directors, and Saguache County has one Director.
When Board vacancies occur, Public Notices are published in area newspapers, and interested applicants submit thier letter of interest to the District Judge. The District Judge then appoints the new Board Members.
